(CTC II-07 Week 27) [Starting Cadets 189: Remaining Cadets 143]
It has been said that all good things must come to an end; this is applicable to the Cadets of CTC II-07 as our final week comes to a close. We have bonded together through the State Capitol run, our Cadet Party, and a small "pool party" with our favorite staff. We have all taken this time to bid one another farewell before moving on to the realty of break-in. As this is our final blog, I would like to take a chance to sincerely thank all of the family members of CTC II-07 for their love and support. It is our hope these entries have been not only a source of enjoyment, but a source of comfort. Again to all of you, Thank You!

(CTC II-07 Week 26) [Starting Cadets 189: Remaining Cadets 143]
Here we are in week 26 and the cadets are still motivated as ever. With graduation near, the Senior Cadets are trying to square away the Junior Cadets and prepare for the big day... graduation. The Cadets know their goal of becoming an Officer is within reach. The Cadets were busy this week finishing up with some tests in hazardous materials, emergency management, and the post final. All three companies have come together for these last couple of weeks and are ready to finish their training and start the real work on the road.

(CTC II-07 Week 25)[Starting Cadets 189: Remaining Cadets 143]
The week started and ended with the ABC’s of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Training. We had a crash course in Basic First Aid. We were given great demonstrations by qualified Officers. On Friday we were put to the test in a group of scenarios to test what we learned. We have two weeks left at the academy and we are still going strong in a race to the finish.

(CTC II-07 Week 24) [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 143]
Without a doubt the most exciting part of week 24 for CTC II-07 has been sharing our experiences from the previous weekend's ride-alongs. Each Cadet is striving to find housing, focusing on learning our beat guides, and preparing for break-in in our assigned areas. We have also been practicing for graduation, preparing for our final fountain ceremony, and we even got a glimpse of the CHP patrol car of the future.

(CTC II-07 Week 23)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 143]
Week 23 was a short week at the Academy. Cadets in all three Companies are preparing for their ride a long in their assigned Area Offices. Cadets have been practicing for graduation and helping get the Junior Cadets improve their Academy training. The Cadets are excited about their ride a longs. Some Cadets are traveling to areas of the State they have never been to before while other Cadets are traveling to their own backyards. To all of the Cadets and their families, have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

(CTC II-07 Week 22)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 144]
Many cadets said it didn't matter where they were assigned after graduation, but that doesn't mean they weren't excited to find out! "Now when people ask where I'm going, I can say something besides California," said Cadet Cushman. We have been working hard in scenarios, DUI labs and Spanish.

(CTC II-07 Week 21)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 152]
This week marked the grand re-opening of the fountain. The 34 cadets on the B-Company fountain drill detail practiced diligently to ensure this re-opening would be successful. They practiced with hope to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Another highlight this week was our first opportunity to get some real DUI practice during the wet lab. "Getting the chance to be a part of the wet lab was outstanding. I feel like I could go out and make a DUI arrest right now." (Cadet Loggins)

(CTC II-07 Week 20)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 156]
This week has been in the back of our minds for the past couple of weeks, our dream sheets will be coming out. Being CS gassed on Saturday, dream sheets coming out on Tuesday and investigation for grade on Friday, Cadets are feeling the pressure. We also had our last Physical Fitness Test on Monday. Starting graduation practice has also brought the reality to the Cadets that we really have to step it up and finish strong.(Cadet Inman)

(CTC II-07 Week 19)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 155]
On Wednesday, cadets got the chance to test themselves in the boxing ring. Though a definite highlight, boxing was not the only thing we experienced this week; we began preparing for Enforcement Tactics and DUI scenarios. We are also doing our part in helping the newly arrived CTC III-07 with drill. "Everyone had a plan going into the ring, but once that glove made contact with your face that plan disappeared." (Cadet Inman)

(CTC II-07 Week 18)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 162]
The weather forecast for the week was mild temperatures and occasional showers. On Thursday afternoon, the Range staff turned up the heat! As part of our training, we were sprayed in the face with Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray. Our exposure to OC spray allows us to understand the affects that occur when properly used. "It felt like my eyes were on fire." (Cadet Bailey)

(CTC II-07 Week 17)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 163]
Here at the Academy, the weeks just blend together. Cadets cannot believe they have been here for 17 weeks. We are studying accident investigation, DUI, and Spanish. Cadets are staying very busy. This week was a little different from the previous weeks; we were here at the Academy by ourselves. With the Senior Cadets graduating last week, they left the class of CTC II-07 behind for some special attention. Knowing that a new class of cadets will be coming on 10-15-2007. It is now our time to welcome the new cadets in and lead them in the right direction. Hello CTC III-07 and welcome to the California Highway Patrol Academy.

(CTC II-07 Week 16)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 163]
This week marks a turning point in our training as we bid farewell, good luck and congratulation to our seniors as they earn their badges. Meanwhile, we remain hard at work studying our Field Sobriety tests for DUI class, practice our Officer Safety for Basic Stops and prepare for Civil Disturbances. "Watching our seniors graduate has really motivated us to overcome all of the challenges ahead and shown us how far we have come as a class." (Cadet Logar)

(CTC II-07 Week 15)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 169]
We are studying how to conduct Field Sobriety Tests (FSTs), how to conduct basic stops, and learning arrest techniques in Spanish. We are beginning our uniform fittings for graduation. We also had a relay race with the senior class (CTC I-07). "I had no idea we could fit so much stuff into so little time." (Cadet Ashby)

(CTC II-07 Week 14)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 170]
This week marks the half way point for our class. Time has become a valuable commodity here at the Academy. With night classes in full swing, time management has become very important to our training. The beginning of the week we completed the POST Physical Performance Test (PPP). As we approached the end of the week, we prepared for our Accident Investigation (AI) Report for Grade. "This week has been physically demanding, with our class going through the PPP test and the mental demands of AI's Report for Grade exam. There are still exciting elements of training, like Range and E.V.O.C." (Cadet Mueller)

(CTC II-07 Week 13)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 173]
Week 12 has come and gone. Besides preparing for Report for Grade (AI), we are learning techniques out at range (Pistols, shotgun and log rifle). On the Drill Pad, we are perfecting "Open March" and "Close March" for our graduation ceremony. The training is turning us into winners; we must remember, "Pain is weakness leaving the body." Cadet Gordon

(CTC II-07 Week 12)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 174]
So much to do, so little time! We have been trying to manage it all and now we have night classes. "As each day passes we become stronger and closer as a class. It has been a challenging week of testing, shooting and driving." (Cadet Bigelow)

(CTC II-07 Week 11)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 179]
The schedule was full of Drill, Accident Investigation, PMA testing, Enforcement Tactics and starting weapons training. We were excited to receive our Duty Belts and weapons. We are starting to look more like Officers. Trying to figure out where to put all our new tools was somewhat of a task. Cadet Wilson had this to say being issued his duty weapon, "Being issued my duty weapon this week was very exciting. I feel like I am one step closer to becoming an Officer."

(CTC II-07 Week 10)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 180]
With the arrival of week 10 came a slew of new experiences for our class. We began Enforcement Tactics and Spanish; including training on the proper deployment and use of the "Spike strip." Some cadets also got to experience Skid Pan at E.V.O.C. Besides the classroom activities, as juniors, some of our duties include polishing brass and the flag detail. Finally, we were fitted for our CHP dress jacket, soft body armor and ordered our first set of "Tans." I'm looking forward to next week, Weapons training! (Cadet Martinez).

(CTC II-07 Week9)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 181]
"Mamma, Mamma can't you see . . . What the Academy's done to Me!" Every week seems to incorporate a new element into our training. We are policing ourselves more and more. We are growing together as a class and our drill is improving. The biggest focus for the week was the test on the vehicle code. We have been studying for this test for weeks, section after section. Prior to us leaving for weekend liberty, our instructor notified our class we all passed the test! The "ooh-rah" could be heard from all around the Academy as we celebrated the moment. We completed another step forward! (Cadet Bertola)

(CTC II-07 Week 8)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 181]
We've completed another week of training, 19 weeks to go! It sounds a lot better than 27 weeks. Week eight was filled with tough studying, Drill, PT, EVOC and LD tests. The class is sticking together and helping each other out. Learning the proper way to set flare patterns was something new for the week. (Cadet Williams).

(CTC II-07 Week 7)  [Starting Cadets 189 : Remaining Cadets 182]
With the arrival of week seven, comes our opportunity to get into the drivers seat. This week began our first phase of Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), Vehicle Placement. This basic phase will help us to prepare for future driving techniques. "I thought I was a good driver, but after high speed backing I quickly realized how wrong I was!" (Cadet Khodak)

(CTC II-07 Week 6)
Every class entering the Academy competes in companies for a special honor on graduation day; performing the final fountain ceremony for their class. We trained for six weeks with an intense focus, this week, in preparation for this competition; known as the "Fountain Off." When Friday arrived . . . we were ready! Boots and brass were freshly polished and at 0710 hours, the competition began. Each company in succession performed the ceremony. At the end it was announced, Company C won the honor (Company C is pictured above). "This week was more than just the competition. It was about honoring the sacrifices made by 211 fallen officers. I came away from this experience with a deeper respect for what we are doing here and more determination to finish." (Cadet Bertola)
