For our last week at the Academy, CTC III-07 exemplified the CHP’s commitment to service by participating in a community service project. With the project completed, CTC III-07 now begins the transition from cadet to officer. (Yetter)
(CTC III-07 Week 26[Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 130]
We are near the end of our academy training and have become Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certified. We are continuing our classroom instruction in Hazardous Material (Haz-Mat) Awareness and Emergency Management, as well as physically training for our five mile “Capitol” run. The practice we have been doing for our graduation ceremony will be put to the test very soon. We have been given a solid foundation in law enforcement which we can build upon throughout our careers. We have become bound by C.H.P. P.R.I.D.E. and have bonded as a family; to support each other in times of need. We all would willingly protect the people of California, for we are sheep dogs, protecting the flock from the wolves. (Cadet Nieves)

This week we participated in a mock DUI trial and then reported to our assigned area offices for our ride-along weekend. When we returned we began our week long training as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Morale is high as we approach the two week mark to graduation. We received our badge numbers and are looking forward to reporting to the field after graduation.

This week all three companies of the senior class attended classes and training together. Training this week included less than lethal shotgun and gang awareness.

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. This week we completed the last phases of E.V.O.C. This included, 11-99 driving (Officer needs help, emergency), as well as Code 3 pursuit driving. We have completed scenario training and are still practicing for graduation.

This week the Cadets of CTC III-07 received our area assignments. Morale is very high. We have completed Range, Spanish, EVOC and we are wrapping up DUI and Scenarios. The end is in sight and our goal is reachable. A few more steps and we are ready for the field.

This week we became the first cadet class to receive Taser training at the Academy. Our Taser training consisted of classroom instruction, time at the range, Taser scenarios and a very intense 5 second Taser ride.

This week we began practicing for our graduation ceremony and were fitted for our California Highway Patrol uniforms. We also began training for scenarios that will hone are skills for the road. In addition, we started Armament systems and procedures (A.S.P.) training. The past 20 weeks of training are being put to the test.

Cadets of CTC III-07 completed Tactical Riot Training for Urban Environments and were introduced to CS gas. We also began night shoots with the Range Staff, as well as preparing for scenario testing. Accident Investigation for grade is scheduled for Friday, and our Spanish Language training continues. “Hard work ensures success. This week we spent a lot of time with the Weapons staff, we qualified with our different weapons systems and received chemical agent training (Exposed to pepper spray). This week we also had the opportunity to spend time outside the classroom practically applying the accident investigation techniques we have been learning.
(CTC III-07 Week 17 [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 142]
This has been an exciting week for us in the areas of boxing, Advanced Officer Safety Training, basic vehicle stops, and Company B winning the march off. As a result, CTC III-07 obtained Senior Status. We have come a long way, but still have a long way to go.

(CTC III-07 Week 16 [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 150]
The cadets of CTC III-07 completed long days of Range, Accident Investigation, Spanish and Enforcement Tactics. EVOC is in full speed and many of us are getting ready for Code 3 driving. We started basic stop and are beginning our practical training for the road. We are in the thick of our training and enduring the struggles together.

This week we began learning Field Sobriety Tests (FST’s) in our DUI class. We are now practicing the FST’s on our breaks and during lunch. This week we had our first uniform inspection in our tan uniforms. Getting to briefly put on the tan uniform of a CHP Officer was an encouraging reminder that all of our hard work will one day be rewarded with the privilege of wearing the CHP uniform on a daily basis.
(CTC III-07 Week 14) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 158]
We have begun to pick-up the pace and have started proper radio etiquette, Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, as well as enforcement tactics and proper patrol techniques. Out of the classroom, firearms training and physical fitness conditioning is top priority. “Although we are still a group…we see our selves melding into a unit and it feels good.” (Cadet Laurie).
(CTC III-07 Week 13) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 162]
This week CTC III-07 began firearms training with the Range Staff. We completed our first phase of enforcement tactics training. We also completed our second physical performance test (PFT). Our drill and ceremony has improved through teamwork and discipline. We have reached the halfway point of our training but realize there is still much more to learn. (Cadet Fear).

This week we completed our “Laws of Arrest” learning domain and began performing the CHP memorial fountain drill ceremony. We were issued our full duty belts and firearms. With the issuance of our weapons, the transition from civilian to Officer is becoming more of a reality. “I am excited to begin firearms training because it reaffirms the class’s progression in Academy training” (Cadet Perreria).
(CTC III-07 Week 11) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 163]
This week was fueled with motivation. The Senior Class graduated on Friday 12-21-07. Our class was given a glimpse of what the future may bring if we are deemed “Road Worthy”. Company B was honored to represent the junior class in the traditional Wednesday fountain ceremony, which pays respects to all the Fallen CHP Officers.
(CTC III-07 Week 10) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 163]
This week we began Spanish and Accident Investigation. In PT we conditioned our minds and our bodies by wrestling our classmates. "Never give up" was the underlying theme of our physical training. We also found motivation in watching the Senior Class (II-07) prepare for graduation. It was rewarding to see their final transition from Academy cadet to road Officer. (Cadet Bennett)

This week we concluded our Presentation of Evidence and Traffic Enforcement Learning Domains. We began two more difficult Learning Domains: Spanish Language and Accident Investigation. “As our seniors near graduation, we get a glimpse of our ultimate goal, but also realize we have a lot of work ahead of us.” (Cadet Wuest)
(CTC III-07 Week 8) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 169]
This week has been filled with many new experiences. We have begun phase two (2) of E.V.O.C. (Skid Pan). We have begun to use our handcuffs (Misdemeanor Arrest Techniques). We were issued our mobile police radios, taught how to light road flares and lay flare patterns. Lastly, we all became C.P.R. certified. "Working together has been the focus of this week. (CTC III-07 Week 7) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 173]
This week the Cadets of CTC III-07 continued to work on close order drill building teamwork and discipline. In Physical Methods of Arrest (PMA), the cadets began training in the use of control holds, handcuffing techniques, and certified with the baton. In the classroom, Cadets were tested on juvenile law, general criminal statutes, and vehicle code. The week was concluded with CPR training. Cadet Cates, R.
(CTC III-07 Week 6 [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 175]
This week our class reached a milestone as our cadet leadership (Company Commander and Guide-on) were appointed by the Academy Staff Sergeant. This week our class also participated in a bell ringing ceremony as the CHP family mourned the loss of a hero killed in the line of duty: Officer John Miller.

Every week has become more challenging than the last. Daily we are strengthening our bodies through physical training and acquiring penal and vehicle code knowledge. Our weekly instruction covered: how to issue citations, EVOC and PMA baton techniques. "Perfect practice leads to perfection." (Cadet Nieto).

This week the Cadets of CTC III-07 helped pay respect to fallen Officers by taking part in the Fountain Ceremony. The class also began EVOC training. Cadets continue to learn Vehicle Codes, Penal Codes, and necessary information to better serve the California Highway Patrol. OOH-RAH! Cadet Cates.
(CTC III-07 Week 3) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 176]
Our training this week consisted of: traffic enforcement, physical training (PT) and physical methods of arrest (PMA). We continued to focus on drill; which forces us to leave behind our individualistic mind sets and work together as a disciplined, cohesive unit. (CTC III-07 Week 2) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 181]
We took our first Learning Domain (LD) examination (Criminal Justice System). We were issued batons, handcuffs and fitted for our bullet proof vest. We were given our first Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and continued working on drill. "Week two gave us a sign of what's to come. We are coming together as a unit and eager to learn." (Cadet Oliva)
(CTC III-07 Week 1) [Starting Cadets 188 : Remaining Cadets 184]
This week civilians from around the state and around the country came together from diverse backgrounds to form Cadet Training Class III-07. Cadets began to realize the importance of working as a team, being on time and moving with a sense of urgency. Cadets learned the meaning of discipline through drill and a demanding schedule. Cadets arrived Monday as individuals but are now working hard as a group. "The military style was eye opening for a lot of people." (Cadet Centeno)
