(CTC II-08 Week 26 [Starting Cadets 213 : Remaining Cadets:145]
We are completing the remainder of our Academy training. In preparation of entering the field in a few short weeks, we had the opportunity to participate in a mock Driving Under the Influence trial which was led by several prosecutors from the Yolo County District Attorney’s office. We also completed a Hazardous Materials class as well as a course in Counterterrorism and Threat Awareness. We are very eager and excited to go to the filed and implement all of the training we have received here at the Academy.

(CTC II-08 Week 25 [Starting Cadets 213 : Remaining Cadets:145]
Week 25 was very assiduous and we worked arduously to learn how to treat for shock, chest wounds, life threatening bleeding, CPR, and basic first aid. Upon completion of this week, we had taken two written tests and completed medical aid scenarios. This has all been done to certify us as Emergency Medical Responders. We only have ten training days left till graduation and we are looking forward to applying all we have learned at the Academy and applying it in practical applications. We are ready to interact with the people of California and provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security that the citizens expect and deserve.

(CTC II-08 Week 24 [Starting Cadets 213 : Remaining Cadets:145]
Scenarios are officially over and we are now more prepared for real life situations. We received training with our less lethal force options and were able to experience the effects of the less lethal shotgun and conductive energy weapon (Taser). We participated in the dedication ceremony of Farrow Field. We competed in a relay race against the Junior Cadet Training Class and the Physical Training Staff. We were also privileged to run with Olympians from the Special Olympics. Overall, we had another outstanding week here at the CHP Academy. The culmination of all our training has led us to this point and graduation is only three weeks away. Our motivation is at an all time high.

or lack of, in the boxing ring.
The week ended strong with investigation
for grade and the scenarios just
around the corner. (Cadet Lewis)
(CTC II-08 Week 17 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets ]
Cadets were very busy this week testing in enforcement tactics and qualifying at the range. Cadets got a first hand opportunity to see and feel the effects of the oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray and learned a valuable lesson from this exercise. The seniors also had their first uniform inspection with their CHP tan uniforms. It has been very motivating to see our classmates in uniform as we realize that we are getting closer to achieving our ultimate goal at the Academy.
(CTC II-08 Week 15 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 162]
Week 15 proved to be a busy week with Cadets relieved to have finished Report for Grade and now turning our focus on DUI, Range, and Basic Stop. We’re beginning to see long hours of training and extra practice paying off as muscle memory takes over and these tasks become easier.
(CTC II-08 Week 13 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 167]
Cadet training hours are beginning earlier in the day and going longer into the evenings. Cadets are utilizing early hours to practice PMA skills. (CTC II-08 Week 12 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 171]
Cadets had the honor and privilege of being able to participate, assist, and represent the academy for the senior graduation. Watching our seniors graduate has been very motivating as we prepare for the new challenges that lay ahead. We realize that we must come together as a class to earn our senior status. We are anxiously awaiting the new junior class, and will work enthusiastically to set the example and guide the new Cadets.
(Cadet Rios)
(CTC II-08 Week 11 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 173]
This week is motivational for us because we get to see our Senior Cadets graduate and become Officers. Our cadet training is getting more complex due to the addition of Range, Accident Investigation, and Enforcement Tactics. In addition to our normal physical training, we also wrestled to test our endurance and strength.
(CTC II-08 Week 10 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 175]
It has been a very inspiring week for CTC II-08. We began many of the Learning Domains (LDs) that will last throughout much of the Academy including; Range, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Spanish, and Accident Investigation (AI). We are coming together as a class and working hard preparing to take the place of our seniors when they graduate next week. We are looking forward to setting the standard for the incoming cadet class.
(CTC II-08 Week 9 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 177]
Week 9 was very busy and exciting for CTC II-08. As our seniors prepare to graduate, we are taking on many new responsibilities. This week we were assigned our duty belts and issued our departmental state issued duty weapons. Cadets also had the opportunity to meet uniform vendors and inquire about purchasing CHP uniforms. We continued to learn the value of Espirit de Corps and realized that we must function as a unit in order to be successful.
(CTC II-08 Week 8 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 180]
Cadets are now working on passing the skid pan portion of their vehicle training. Cadets also learned how to lay out flare patterns. It is crucial that knowledge is retained because cadets now need to know it for reports and other CHP paperwork. We were motivated this week by the return of the senior class from their weekend ride-a-longs.
(CTC II-08 Week 7 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 181]
We felt a lot of pressure in week seven due to three large exams which covered Laws of Arrest, Vehicle Code, and Baton Techniques. As a class we ended the week with a high level of motivation as we watched our seniors leave to report to their newly assigned area offices for the cadet ride alongs. We are coming together well. As a class as we adjust to life here, at the Academy. (Thomas Cantrell)

During Week 6 at the Academy, 34 Junior Cadets had the honor of participating in the fountain ceremony. Cadets also got to use their physical methods of arrest techniques against the PT Instructors. Cadets have been studying hard all week as we had our first night class on Monday. Many Junior Cadets have lent a helping hand this week by participating in the DUI Wet Lab. This will assist Senior Cadets on becoming experts on DUI.
(CTC II-08 Week 5 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 183]
Academy academics are essential to understanding the daily tasks of the California Highway Patrol. Memorization of the Vehicle Code is a stressful part of the Academy. We are learning Academy tasks (ceremonial drill, flag detail, brass polishing) so we can take over these responsibilities from the Senior Cadets. Working as a unit, and paying attention to detail are great keys to our success.
(CTC II-08 Week 4 [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 187 ]
Week four has been a busy week. We took over the task of polishing the brass in many of the buildings throughout the Academy, and have been hitting the Vehicle Code book very hard. We lost a couple of Cadets this week to injuries, but we have been working together to improve our marching. We are looking forward to starting the Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC) at the end of the week.
(CTC II-08 Week 2) [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 196]
Cadets are still adjusting to the requirements of Academy life. Cadets were issued gear and were introduced to Physical Methods of Arrest. Time was also spent on preparing for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Service on Thursday. Teamwork and discipline are essential for Academy life.
(CTC II-08 Week 1) [Starting Cadets 212 : Remaining Cadets 200]
Week one for CTC II-08 was quite an experience. Monday we were introduced to the Staff and what life is going to be like for the next 27 weeks.
