(CTC II-09 Week 24)
[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 163}
With week 24 behind us, CTC II-09 can breathe a small sigh of relief and excitement. We are officially done with EVOC, Physical Methods of Arrest techniques including ASP certifications, and investigation for grade. We went on ride alongs in our assigned areas and met some of our future beat partners. As we begin our hazmat and Emergency Medical Response training, we are reminded that our real-life training will begin in just three short weeks. Morale is high and we will show our commitment to the community by taking part in a service project that will lay a foundation of us giving back. We head into week 25 full force.

(CTC II-09 Week 21)
[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 185}
As week 21 comes to a close, we are one week closer to graduation. This week has put into practical application all of the lessons we have learned thus far. Most of the class has finished scenarios and the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), and the remainder of the class is not far from behind. We have experienced the Tazer and completed night range as well. DUI wet lab gave us real life Field Sobriety Test (FST) practice and we certified in Spanish Primary Methods of Arrest (PMA). Every morning as we practice our graduation ceremony, we are reminded that the end is in sight and we have to stay on task and keep focused.

[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 187}
CTC II-09 received our Dream Sheets this week. This is yet another huge step toward becoming officers. It is also an indication of how close our class is to the completion of our training. All three companies are in the midst of scenarios which test the culmination of our training. The pressure is on for CTC II-09 but we will not quit. As we fight through 4:30am PT, Scenarios, Taser training, and exhaustion, we know our goal is close.

[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 188}
We have officially felt the pain of a Taser, the burn of O.C. Spray, and the suffocation of CS-gas. These experiences have given us a whole new perspective on our training. As we fight through the pain together, we continue to tighten the bonds we have established as the class of CTC II-09.

(CTC II-09 Week 17)
[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 199]
Week 17 was an exciting week for CTC II-09. We had the opportunity to participate in the “Out Of The Darkness” community walk with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The purpose of the walk was to help raise money for suicide prevention and assist those affected by suicide. This week we spent plenty of time at the Range as we completed the qualification course for pistol, shotgun, and rifle. We finished the week with the Weapons Staff as we were introduced to OC spray. The pace of out training is getting more intense and CTC II-09 is ready for every challenge

[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 199]
Week 16 was filled with many challenges for CTC II-09. We are learning how to perform a felony stop on a vehicle and how to properly remove the occupants from the vehicle. We have also been preparing for weapons qualifications by spending long hours at the range. This week we received a special opportunity to experience a simulated civil disturbance scenario and “arrested” our fellow cadets who acted as protesters. As we get closer to completing our training and becoming Officers, we continue to push forward and never look back. CTC II-09 will succeed.

This is why we joined! CTC-II-09 has reached the mid point of our Academy training. In reflection, it is amazing how far we have come individually and as a class. The discipline and detail awareness we have learned through the daily demands of Academy life are now the foundation for our progress in Range, EVOC, Enforcement Tactics, DUI, and Accident Investigation. It is motivating to be practicing the techniques of CHP Officers and an honor to learn from the Academy Staff.

We are beginning to perform much more hands on training. We are shooting our Departmentally-Issued Duty Weapons at the range and going through scenarios with the Enforcement Tactics Staff. We are coming together as a Company and taking every challenge head on. We are finding new ways to support each other through the difficult training.

[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 213]
It was motivating to see our seniors graduate last week and we wish them the best of luck as Officers. This week has been equally motivating as the Academy Staff has been able to focus their attention solely on us. This week we began Enforcement Tactics, had our first day at the range firing our weapons and had the honor of performing the fountain ceremony for the first time. We continue to work hard in the classroom as we get further along in DUI and accident investigations. We look forward to the arrival of our junior class next week.

CTC II-09 continues to move ahead. The intensity of our training has increased with the addition of night classes and handcuffing techniques. The PT Staff continues to challenge our bodies while we engage with the academic demands of multiple learning domains and tests each week.
Our class was given the opportunity through the “T.L.C. At the CHP” program to register as bone marrow donors. Our participation allowed each of us a chance to help save a life which is ultimately the motivation that brought many of us to the CHP.

[Starting Cadets 240: Remaining Cadets 225]
Adjusting to our life here at the Academy, it is getting better but it is still challenging. We can hardly believe that a month at the Academy is almost under our belts. We can look back already at the changes in ourselves. We are becoming more disciplined and motivated each day. Our companies are bonding closer together during drill. Preliminary Methods of Arrest techniques is challenging but exciting. The Physical Fitness training staff has found creative ways to get us fit, lean and strong. It is challenging at the Academy. But CTC II-09 is rising up to the challenge.
