Defensive driving should be practiced by every driver. Some factors that contribute to the cause of traffic collisions include:
- Driving under the influence or alcohol or drugs
- Unsafe turning
- Unsafe speed
- Following too close
- Unsafe lane change
- Improper merging
To prevent traffic collisions and minimize injuries that could be sustained in traffic collisions:
- Never drink and drive
- Do not exceed the speed limit
- Follow the three second space cushion rule
- Do not make unnecessary lane changes
- Have enough room to merge into traffic
- Wear your seatbelt
