Community Outreach and Media Relations (COMR) represents the California Highway Patrol in dealings with the news media. COMR serves as the Commissionerís press office. The public information officers speak to the media on behalf of the Department on statewide issues and those involving CHP policies.
In addition to reacting to various media inquiries, COMR personnel design pro-active media strategies to convey to the general public our basic missions: saving lives by enforcing traffic safety laws and educating the public about traffic safety issues.
The mission of COMR is also to support field commands in their interactions with the news media. This support includes advice, talking points, press releases and other media materials designed to aid area public affairs officers in their contacts with the media.
Community Outreach and Media Relations also provides media relations training to field public affairs officers.
