Field Support Section: Accident Investigation Unit

The Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) was established March 1, 1999, in the Enforcement & Planning Division, Field Services Section. The unit is the result of combining two programs: Accident Investigation (AI); and Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) Training. The AIU will continue to develop this site as a means to provide service in answering frequently asked questions, on-line publications, training information and more.

The unit is responsible for providing advice on coding issues; revising the Collision Investigation Manual, HPM 110.5, and the Traffic Collision Report (CHP 555); and the MAIT Operations Manual, HPM 110.1. We provide traiing in all phases of AI beginning with:
