We are very proud of and value every member of our Department.
Uniformed and nonuniformed, they all make important contributions
that serve to make the CHP the fine law enforcement organization it is.

Captain Ernie Sanchez
by Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger

Captain Ernie Sanchez is definitely one to watch. Upon first glance at him, you would imagine Ernie is fresh out of the Academy, but don't let his youthful appearance fool you. In his 18 years on the department, he has managed to promote twice, and has made great ties in the Hispanic community with his work on the CHP El Protector Program.

Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger
by Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger
As a young girl growing up in California, I frequently dreamed of a career in law enforcement. I always had a great deal of respect for the law, and especially admired women in uniform, but girls weren't encouraged to be police officers. I didn't really think that was something I could do.

Officer Arnold Hardy
by Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger
You could say Arnold Hardy was destined to be a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer. His father, Eugene Hardy was a CHP officer for 20 years, and since his earliest memories, Arnold wanted to be just like Dad. He remembers wearing his father's uniform shirt as a child, dreaming of the day he would earn his own. Through the years, there would be some diversions, but his heart would lead him back to the CHP.

Officer Kellie Riley
by Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger
Kellie Riley was destined to be an officer with the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Just ask her father, Sergeant Pat Riley, a 29-year veteran with the CHP. Or ask her brother, Officer Scott Riley, also a member of the CHP. For Kellie, the CHP has always been a family affair.

From Annapolis to a Patrol Car
Transitioning from military officer to CHP Officer
Tom Phelan, Charlton Adams and Vince Pagano work in different parts of California, but they have three important things in common. They are former military officers, attended and graduated together from the United States (U.S.) Naval Academy (class of 89), and they are currently officers in the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Sergeant Jill Dolce
(pronounced dol-chay) had never considered a career in law enforcement. She was too busy playing collegiate softball and earning a Bachelor's Degree in English and a teaching credential at California State University at San Jose. After finishing her studies and entering the working world as a high school teacher (like her father), she searched for ways to fulfill her need for athletic competition. She played community league softball and soccer and handled the "power spot" on a six-person outrigger canoe team for a time.

Lieutenant Omar Watson
by Sergeant Angela Ditzenberger
Omar Watson was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His father was an X-ray Technician in the Air Force, and moved the family to San Antonio, Texas, where Omar spent most of his childhood. As a young boy, Omar always envisioned he would do something great with his life. He thought he would somehow be in the limelight. After moving to California, he embarked on his future, which would lead him to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
