Explorer Competitions

2013 Kern County
Memorial Explorer Competition

On June 13, 2013 the Visalia CHP Explorers traveled to the mountain city of Tehachapi to compete in the Kern County Memorial Explorer Competition. Over the course of two windy days the explorers competed against 13 other law enforcement explorers from across California.

Explorers participated in well-known events such as building search, felony stop, DUI stop, suspicious person contact, obstacle course, and active shooter. They also had the opportunity to experience unusual scenarios such as search and rescue, downed airplane, and bomb search.

After the dust settled, the Visalia Explorers came home with numerous wins. 1st place in felony stop, DUI stop, active shooter, and suspicious person. 2nd place search and rescue. 3rd place building search. 4th place plain recovery. Most coveted award was 1st place overall which make this the second time Visalia CHP Explorers place in the top 3 overall after taking 2nd place in 2011.

For many of the explorers this was their first time in Tehachapi and they were able to enjoy the local restaurants and home town movie theater. We would like to thank the city of Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Police Department for hosting this wonderful event. We look forward to seeing them next year.
