Some Frequently Asked Questions from Recruiting

How do I Fill out the Online Application?

Read all of the Application Instructions and Important Information for the Cadet Applicant documents.

Why Don't I See an Application Form After I Press the Apply Online Button?

You must scroll down the screen to see the text on the Examination Overview page, if your screen is set for a low 800 x 600 pixel resolution. Screens with higher resolution should have no problems seeing any of the Cadet Application Online screens. After you verify your e-mail address, you will be forwarded to the cadet application form.

Why Am I Receiving an “Only Numbers are Allowed in Street Number” Error?

If you keep getting this error even though you can only see numbers in the field, position the cursor after the last visible street number in the box then press the Delete key to remove any spaces that you may have accidentally typed there. Many people attempt to enter the entire street address on the “Street Number” field and, therefore, they have typed a space after the street number. This space must be removed. Only numbers are allowed. For more information on this subject, click here.

Why Am I Receiving an “Enter Valid Birth Date (ex: MM-DD-YYYY)” Error?

The birth date must be in the MM-DD-YYYY format, meaning the two-digit month followed by the two-digit day followed by the four-digit year (e.g., 02-25-1985). Some people mistakenly type a two-digit year (e.g., 85) instead of all four digits (e.g., 1985). For more information on this subject, click here.

Why Am I Receiving a “Please enter a valid Social Security Number Error (ex: 999-99-9999)?”

The nine-digit SSN must be in the following format: the first three digits in the first box, the fourth and fifth digits in the middle box, and the last four digits in the third box. For example, SSN 123-44-5555 is divided among the SSN boxes like: 123 - 44 - 55555. For more information on this subject, click here.

The System Put Me into the Wrong Test.

Most likely, you accidentally chose an incorrect county code. The county code determines which exam you will take. If you printed out the screen of information before pressing SUBMIT, you can look and see which county code you selected. Unfortunately, if the exam code is not the one you wanted, we cannot change it. However, you may reapply 10 days after the written test date for the incorrect exam code (for example, if the written test for exam 21082 is 4/19/2008, you may reapply after 4/29/2008). For more information on this subject, click here. If you need more help in deciding the correct exam code, please contact your local recruiter at 1-888-4A-CHP-JOB.

The System Incorrectly Rejected My Application – What Do I Do Now?

After applying online, our computer system will further check to make sure you meet the minimum qualifications. Your application will be rejected for the following reasons: You are too old or too young; you have a felony conviction; you do not have a high school diploma or GED; or you are not a citizen AND you have not yet applied for citizenship. Your application may also be rejected if you have already filed an application for the same exam code or you are still active in a previous exam code. If you feel your application was rejected erroneously, you may file another application with the correct information after 72 hours have elapsed. For more information on this subject, click here.
