Field Support Unit
The Field Support Unit (FSU) provides assistance and guidance to Area offices within the Division. The FSU oversees an array of complex programs that fall within the scope of occupational safety, driving under the influence operations/presentations, pursuits, protective services, foreign registration, speed enforcement, tow services, terrorism, and other programs. In addition, FSU is responsible for providing progressive/mandated training to personnel that promotes experiential learning, critical thinking, and communication. FSU delivers supervision, direction, and support to California Highway Patrol (CHP) personnel across Golden Gate Division.
One of the greatest responsibilities of the FSU is the coordination with Areas to ensure DUI Traffic Safety/Designated Driver Program (DDP) Presentations, and DUI Task Force Operations are conducted throughout the Bay Area. Each year, motorists are needlessly maimed or killed on our roads by those who drive under the influence. By publicizing these efforts, providing education, and targeting roadways where there is a high frequency of driving under the influence arrests, the CHP believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving. Those motorists under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs can expect to be arrested.
