The Castro Valley Area of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is committed to providing the highest level of safety, service, and security to thousands of residents and commuters who traverse Interstate 580 and the unincorporated roadways of Alameda County on a daily basis. The Castro Valley Area was founded in 2004, and is unique in that in addition to portions of Interstate 580, the Area serves as the primary traffic law enforcement agency for approximately 470 miles of unincorporated county roadways located within the communities of Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, and Fairview. Area personnel provide traffic enforcement, traffic collision investigation, and traffic safety education services to these communities, which are comprised of approximately 130,000 residents.
The Castro Valley Area places an emphasis on forging and maintaining partnerships with traffic safety stakeholders, which includes collaboration with local community groups, other public agencies, elected officials, and feedback from residents regarding traffic safety goals and concerns. We offer a number of traffic safety educational resources to our communities, which include child safety seat installation instruction and programs geared towards new drivers.
