​Geographical Description:

The Madera Area of the California Highway Patrol, being the geographic center of California, strives to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security in performance of our day to day responsibilities within our approximately 1800 square miles of jurisdiction and 1500 miles of roadway in Madera County. These roadways include approximately 29 miles of State Route 99 (SR-99) and 16 miles of State Route 152 (SR-152) which are heavily traveled routes through the Madera Area. SR-99 is a main route of travel for traffic between northern and southern California and SR-152 provides eastbound and westbound travel from State Route 99 (SR-99) to the coast. State Route 41 (SR-41) provides the motoring public with a north/south route of travel through the Madera Area to Yosemite National Park while State Route 145 (SR-145) provides the motoring public with an east/west route of travel through the Madera Area to Millerton Lake. Madera County encompasses approximately 2,137 square miles, at an elevation of 282 feet.

Staffing:

The Madera Area of the California Highway Patrol is staffed by 29 uniformed personnel. The Area’s Organizational Structure consists of one lieutenant commander, three sergeants, and 24 officers. The Area has primary responsibility for traffic enforcement and the investigation of traffic collisions in unincorporated Madera County. Madera, the Spanish word for lumber, is one of the fastest growing counties in California with a rapidly increasing population of over 150,865 residents.

Community:

The Madera Area’s judicial system is Madera Superior Court which offers a Traffic Division Traffic Division, Juvenile Division Juvenile Division and Sierra Division Sierra Division as well as Family Court Services Family Court Services and a self-help Family Law Center Self Help / Family Law Center .

Public Affairs:

The Madera Area Public Information Officer offers many programs to help ensure motorist safety throughout the county.  A few of these programs include:

· “Start Smart” for teen drivers
· “Age Well, Drive Smart” for senior drivers
· “Teen and Adult Distracted Drivers” for all drivers
· “Every 15 Minutes” for high schools in Madera County
· Bicycle and pedestrian safety courses
· Child occupant restraint education and child seat fittings
· “Have a Good Ride” for motorcycle safety
