The Yreka Communications Center (YCC) is located in the beautiful mountainous area of Northern California just off of Interstate 5, approximately 23 miles south of the Oregon state line and approximately 35 miles north of beautiful Mount Shasta.
YCC’s dispatch area encompasses all of Siskiyou, and parts of Modoc and Shasta counties. YCC dispatches for the Yreka and Mt. Shasta Area offices; the Dunsmuir Grade Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility; and the Resident Posts in Dorris, Tulelake, and Happy Camp.
The northern most county in the state of California is rich in history and heritage. With an elevation of approximately 2700 feet and a population of approximately 7600, Yreka is in the heart of Siskiyou County and serves as the county seat. The area offers mountains, hills, valleys, dairy and farm land, rivers and great swimming holes and expansive hiking trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail that stretches from Mexico to Canada. There are an abundance of outdoor activities to enjoy including hiking, water skiing in the many lakes; snow skiing on Mt. Shasta or just across the Oregon border on Mt. Ashland; rafting; fishing; boating; camping, including a handicap accessible campground at Kangaroo Lake; hunting; gardening; touring The Living Memorial where sculptures represent, and pay respect to, all branches of the military; or enjoy the fourth of July fireworks over Lake Siskiyou. In the summer time, Yreka is home to farmers markets; free concerts in the park; Railroad Days; the very popular county fair; and even a nearby hot air balloon fair. For those that prefer indoor activities there is an abundance of curious shops and museums that take you back in time, or you can simply relax and enjoy the beautiful views as the seasons change.
