The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Sacramento Communications Center (SCC) exists for the purpose of providing an efficient communications system between members of the public, CHP patrol personnel, allied agencies and support services as well as being the largest 911 answering center in the region. In 2014, SCC handled over one million phone calls, 88% of which were emergency 911 calls. The SCC is co-located with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) forming the Sacramento Regional Traffic Management Center. This cooperative effort allows for real time information to be relayed to CHP patrol personnel and appropriate resources and action to be taken without delay to mitigate traffic related and emergency incidents.
