The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Contra Costa Area is proud to serve the Contra Costa County region by providing safety, service, and security to more than 1 million residents, commuters, and visitors each day. As part of the CHP’s Golden Gate Division, our office patrols Interstate 680, Interstate 80, State Route 4, State Route 24, State Route 242, and all unincorporated roadways throughout the county.
Our office offers a variety of traffic safety programs designated to help keep our community safe on local roads and highways. Our officers are available to provide guidance on properly securing children in car seats, educating new drivers about the challenges of the road, and sharing tips for driving at night, in adverse weather, and during high-volume traffic conditions.
You can help us make our roadways safer by driving defensively and safely, obeying posted speed limits, maintaining safe following distances, using turn signals, and showing courtesy to fellow motorists. To enroll in any of our upcoming traffic safety classes and events, please visit chp-bayarea.eventbrite.com.
