Commander’s Message:
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Grass Valley Area is dedicated to providing Safety, Service, and Security to the Sierra Foothills. As part of the CHP’s Valley Division, our office patrols the State Routes of 20, 49, and 174, as well as the unincorporated roadways of western Nevada County, northeastern Yuba County, and southwestern Sierra County. This includes the areas surrounding Grass Valley and Nevada City, as well as the communities of Alta Sierra, Camptonville, Cascade Shores, Cedar Ridge, Chicago Park, Downieville, Lake of the Pines, Lake Wildwood, North San Juan, Peardale, Penn Valley, Rough & Ready, Sierra City, Washington, and others. This amounts to an area with approximately 85,000 residents and a high visitation rate for tourism and recreation.
We offer a number of programs aimed at keeping you safe on the highway. Contact our office for information on how to properly install and use child safety seats, teach new drivers the challenges of the road, or learn tips for driving at night and in bad weather. In addition, we inspect school buses and certify school bus drivers, work with schools on pupil safety, and perform education and enforcement regarding driving under the influence.
As a Department, the public trusts us to keep our roadways safe, and we are committed to maintaining that trust. You depend on us, and our state’s economic vitality depends on us as well. The California Highway Patrol is proud to serve all motorists in this state, and we are working hard to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security each and every day.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our web site.
