As part of the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Valley Division, the East Sacramento Area patrols unincorporated areas of Sacramento County east of Watt Avenue, west of the El Dorado County line, south of the American River, and north of Jackson Road (State Route 16), as well  as Sunrise Boulevard and portions of unincorporated Sacramento County east of Sunrise Boulevard, north of the American River.  The East Sacramento Area patrols approximately 22 miles of US Highway 50, provides law enforcement services to over 65 state facilities, and proudly serves the following unincorporated communities within a 175 square mile area:

Gold River
La Riviera
Orangevale
Rancho Murieta
Rosemont
 
In an ongoing effort to provide the people of California with the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security, the East Sacramento Area strives to prevent the loss of life, injury, and property damage through education and enforcement.  The East Sacramento Area offers a variety of services and programs geared toward protecting the motoring public, providing driver and personal safety tips, and ensuring that our highways remain safe.  Such programs include teen driver safety seminars, bicycle safety presentations, workplace violence presentations, and child restraint installations and inspections.  As a member of the motoring public, you can help keep our highways safe by planning your travels in advance with consideration given to current environmental and weather conditions, safe and courteous driving practices, and by demonstrating respect and patience with your fellow motorists.  For further information regarding the multitude of safety programs and services provided by the CHP, please visit the CHP’s main web page at www.chp.ca.gov 
 

VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) INSPECTIONS:

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections performed at the East Sacramento Area are by DMV referral only and routinely involve VIN verifications for out of state vehicles or vehicles with no DMV record.  All VIN inspections are by appointment only and require that you reside within the geographical boundaries of the East Sacramento Area’s jurisdiction (See map below).  To schedule an appointment with the East Sacramento Area’s VIN Officer, call (916) 464-1450 or email 260VIN@chp.ca.gov


The Valley Division Salvage Vehicle Inspection Program (SVIP) is remotely located at the East Sacramento CHP office.  An appointment for an SVIP inspection is required, and only available for individuals who have been directed by the DMV to obtain a CHP 97C, Inspection Certificate.  To schedule an appointment with the Valley Division SVIP Officer, email 20Salvage@chp.ca.gov

CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL EXPLORER PROGRAM:

The CHP Explorer Program is designed for persons, 15 to 21 years of age, interested in developing the skills and knowledge needed to serve the people of California through discipline and a commitment to serving their community. Explorers assist the CHP with administrative and field operations. The experience they obtain will be directly applicable to a future in law enforcement, while building relationships - with other Explorers, in the community they serve, and within the CHP. Explorers receive physical fitness training, medical training, organizational, and clerical training.  California Highway Patrol Explorers will attend Community Service events, staff DUI Checkpoints, participate in ride-a-longs, and compete in Explorer Competitions. CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM:

The California Highway Patrol is looking for motivated individuals who want to give something back to their community as Senior Volunteers. ​​​​​​​​ Volunteers assist the CHP provide enhanced public service to the community. This is an opportunity for senior citizens to make a definitive contribution towards improving public Safety, Service, and Security. The Senior Volunteer Program instills an understanding and appreciation of the justice system, human relations, and ethics in the field of law enforcement. ​ 

Requirements:
You must be 55 years or older, ability to work a minimum of 4 hours per week, pass a background check, have a good driving record, and complete the CHP Senior Volunteer Training Program.  If you are interested in becoming a Senior Volunteer at the East Sacramento Area, email Officer Trent Senter at Tsenter@chp.ca.gov

OBTAINING A TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT:

The CHP 190 is available in both English and Spanish.
Traffic crash reports are available to be picked up at any CHP office during normal business hours. To receive a copy of a report you must be an involved party, passenger, property owner, or licensed insurance agent (with a signed release from your insured, an involved party). There is a fee for the crash report (cash or check). Please contact the CHP office responsible for the crash investigation ahead of time to ensure your traffic crash report is available for pick up.

 

PROBLEM ORIENTATED POLICING (POP) PROGRAM:

The Mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service and Security to the people of California.  Vital to this mission is seeking to ensure our roadways and communities are safe by addressing aggressive and dangerous driving practices, as well as the concerns of community members and local businesses.  The CHP East Sacramento Area routinely conducts supplemental enforcement operations in support of these stated goals through enforcement, education, and collaboration with the communities we serve. The CHP East Sacramento Area’s POP program will focus efforts on increased patrols on  major corridors, roadways with high crash frequency and crash rates, and specific traffic and community-related issues across our geographical region.  All non-emergency traffic/community related concerns may be sent to 260pop@chp.ca.gov  or by contacting the CHP East Sacramento Area at (916) 464-1450, during regular business hours.
