Located in northern Los Angeles county, the Newhall Area of the California Highway Patrol is responsible for patrolling 204 miles of Freeway and 296 miles of unincorporated roadway within its 772 square mile territory. Newhall is one of four towns, including Valencia, Saugus and Canyon Country, which were incorporated in 1987 to form the city of Santa Clarita. The Santa Clarita area has stood-in for Las Vegas, Mexico and even South Korea in countless movies and TV shows for the past several decades. If you watch almost any television at all, chances are you’ve seen our Area on the screen. The Western Walk of Fame is located in Old Town Newhall and pays homage to many stars from the early days of film. Located in unincorporated parts of the county, Stevenson Ranch, Castaic, Agua Dulce and Val Verde fall under the jurisdiction of the Area as well as the vital Interstate 5/State Route 14 Interchange. This multi-lane interchange sees the lion share of the state’s vehicular traffic between Central and Southern California via multiple connectors, High Occupancy Vehicle lanes and access ramps with an annual average daily traffic count exceeding 350,000 vehicles per day.
The Area is committed to conveying the message of driving safely every time a motorist gets behind the wheel by providing educational programs in an effort to reduce the loss of life. We routinely host programs like Start Smart (a program for teen drivers and parents), Every 15 Minutes (a program to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving to juniors and seniors at local high schools), and Car Fit (a program for senior drivers). The Area is very proactive in seeking and removing impaired drivers before they can cause a devastating consequence. With these educational programs and proactive actions through enforcement, the Area can help reduce traffic collisions causing fatalities and injuries to motorists who live in the area and those who commute through.
The Area also has a Senior Volunteer Post for mature individuals looking for a way to assist our officers and their community and an Explorer Post for young men and women who are interested in a possible career in law enforcement. Contact our office for more information and an advisor will be happy to talk to you about either of these programs. The Newhall Area utilizes 4 Los Angeles County Superior Courts; Santa Clarita, Antelope Valley, San Fernando and Chatsworth. For questions regarding any court proceedings, you may contact the Los Angeles County Superior Court system at (213) 742-6648.
Our Area Office is open from Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm in order to help you if you need to get your vehicle released from an impound.
Contact our office to learn more information on how to safely utilize child passenger safety seats, provide information on bicycle safety, teach new drivers the challenges of the road, or learn safety tips for driving in inclement weather or in high volume traffic. You can help us by driving defensively and safely, obeying the speed laws, and being courteous on the road. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
