Welcome to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Fresno Area. It is our privilege to serve the residents and visitors of California’s Central San Joaquin Valley by providing the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

As part of the CHP’s Central Division, the Fresno Area provides professional law enforcement services throughout Fresno County, California’s sixth-largest county, encompassing more than 6,000 square miles. Our officers patrol over 4,045 miles of state highways, freeways, and unincorporated roadways, serving the communities of Clovis, Reedley, Sanger, Selma, Kingsburg, Kerman, Fresno, Parlier, Orange Cove, Mendota, Fowler, Del Rey, San Joaquin, Auberry, Shaver Lake, Caruthers, Biola, Easton, Riverdale, Laton, and Tranquility. Officers assigned to the Kings River and Shaver Lake Resident Posts also provide law enforcement services throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills, surrounding mountain communities, and nearby national parks.

In addition to traffic enforcement and crash investigation, the Fresno Area’s Safety Services Program (SSP) provides law enforcement and security services to state-owned facilities throughout Fresno County. The Fresno Area has also expanded its responsibilities to include law enforcement services for California’s High-Speed Rail system.

Education and community engagement remain essential components of our mission. The Fresno Area offers a variety of traffic safety programs designed to educate motorists of all ages, including the Child Safety Seat Program, Start Smart, Adult Distracted Driving presentations, and the California Motorcyclist Safety Program.
