The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakhurst Area is proud to serve Eastern Madera County and Mariposa County providing safety, service, and security to thousands of residents, commuters, and tourists each day.

Our mountain community is part of the culturally rich Southern Sierra, with world famous destinations including Yosemite National Park, Bass Lake, Sierra National Forest, Devils Postpile National Monument, and the Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias. We patrol up to the south entrances of Yosemite National Park, providing foreign and domestic tourists with the assurance their visit to our area will be safe and secure. State Route 140 is the lowest elevation entrance into Yosemite National Park which makes it the only “All Season” access to the Park. Mariposa is proud of its rich history, playing an integral part in the Gold Rush of 1849. The Mariposa Area CHP serves a diverse geographic area ranging from the eastern San Joaquin Valley (elev. 170’) to the western portion of the Sierra Nevada Mountains (elev. over 5000’).

We offer a number of traffic safety programs aimed at keeping you and your loved ones safe on our roadways. Contact our office for information on proper use of car seats and these education presentation opportunities.

You can help us by driving defensively, obeying the posted speeds, not driving while distracted, and being courteous to other drivers. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Click the “Programs and Services” tab above to learn more about the many traffic safety programs the CHP has to offer.
