SACRAMENTO
– The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Computer Crimes Investigation Unit
(CCIU) has successfully apprehended a suspect connected to the distribution
of a large volume of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online. In
December 2023, CCIU investigators traced the distribution of CSAM to a
residence in Lincoln, California. On July 18, 2024, a search warrant was
executed at the location, leading to the seizure of several computers and
electronic devices. Investigators quickly identified Marc Hinahon Aquino, who
was at the residence when the search took place, as the primary suspect in
the illegal activity. During
a thorough examination of the seized devices, investigators uncovered more
than 600 images depicting children, ranging from toddlers to prepubescent
teens, and evidence connecting the images to Aquino. An
arrest warrant was issued for Aquino, who surrendered to CHP custody on
October 2, 2024. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on charges of
possessing material depicting sexual conduct of a minor, in violation of
California Penal Code 311.11(a). He is currently being held on a $50,000
bond. “Our
team’s relentless commitment to protecting the state’s most vulnerable
members cannot be overstated,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “Their
dedication and meticulous efforts in this investigation have led to the
apprehension of an individual who was preying on innocent children. I commend
our investigators for their tireless work and collaboration with our law
enforcement partners to ensure justice is served and to safeguard
California’s communities.” The
CCIU was assisted by the Lincoln Police Department and the Sacramento County
Sheriff’s Office Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force. The
mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and
Security. |
