ELK GROVE MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING CHP INVESTIGATION INTO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

ELK GROVE, Calif. – An Elk Grove man surrendered to authorities this week, after an arrest warrant was issued by the Superior Court of California - County of Sacramento, for possessing and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Tuesday’s arrest of 30-year-old Christian Daniel Grimes follows a several months-long investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Computer Crimes Investigation Unit (CCIU).

Grimes is facing felony charges for violations of PC 311.11(a). He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on May 28, where he’s being held on $50,000 bail.

“After months of tireless investigation, our team has successfully apprehended an individual involved in heinous crimes against children. This arrest demonstrates our steadfast commitment to protecting the most vulnerable among us and ensuring that justice is served,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee.

The investigation by CHP began in January 2024 when a CCIU investigator identified an Internet Protocol (IP) address in Elk Grove that was suspected of downloading and distributing a significant quantity of CSAM pictures and videos.

On March 6, a residential search warrant was served by CHP investigators in the 5000 block of Murrell Street in Elk Grove. Multiple devices at the residence revealed several gigabytes of CSAM of children aged 3 to 13, totaling over 100,000 pictures and videos, along with additional artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images. Grimes was linked to the devices.

The CCIU was assisted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force.
The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.
