1.    CHP CAPTURES SUSPECTS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH MURDER FOLLOWING A PURSUIT IN OAKLAND

A pair of California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers assigned to Operation Oakland Safe Streets successfully apprehended two men wanted in connection with a homicide in San Leandro, Calif.  On Oct. 27, the officers were on patrol in Oakland when they spotted a Maserati stopped in the traffic lane, with both occupants asleep and a handgun lying on the passenger’s lap.  The occupants woke up, saw the officers, and fled the scene.  A pursuit followed and ended when the driver abandoned the vehicle, attempting to flee on foot.  He was quickly apprehended by the CHP officers.  The passenger was also taken into custody.  Further investigation revealed the driver was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in a barbershop earlier that week.  Both suspects were booked into the Santa Rita Jail on multiple charges related to evading arrest, possession of firearms, drug possession, and additional charges related to the homicide case in San Leandro.

2.    CHP INVESTIGATORS’ DISCOVERY LEADS TO A GRAND HEIST HALT

CHP vehicle theft investigators in Southern Division strike again in their mission to thwart car, truck, motorcycle, and construction equipment theft. During a routine business inspection on Nov. 29, they encountered a hidden chop-shop in Los Angeles, recovering a total of seven stolen vehicles, four stolen motorcycles, two stolen forklifts, three stolen trailers, and a diverse array of stolen engines and vehicle parts.  They also located several illegal firearms and magazines, which were in the possession of a convicted felon, and arrested a separate individual attempting to fraudulently purchase a 2024 Land Rover Velar valued at approximately $130,000.

3.    SOAR TO NEW HEIGHTS WITH A CAREER WITH THE CHP

Here is proof that a career with the CHP can take you beyond the highway.  On Nov. 28, members of the CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations Unit conducted ocean rescue training with the San Francisco Fire Department.  At the conclusion of the training, the H-30 crew had the opportunity to speak with the Mission High Fire/EMS class.  The CHP offers a wide variety of assignments that allow individuals to make a difference in their community and the lives of those they serve.  To apply, visit www.chpcareers.com or call the statewide Recruitment Unit at (916) 843-4300 today.

4.    THE SMELL OF SUCCESS FOR A CHP CANINE IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY

CHP’s Southern Division K9 Axel and his partner showcased their exceptional skills in action once more.  On Nov. 30, during a traffic stop in Arcadia, Calif., the canine team successfully uncovered and seized approximately 97 kilos of cocaine.  Later that same evening, while on another traffic stop in Valencia, Calif., the dynamic duo discovered a kilo of fentanyl powder, 7 pounds of methamphetamine, and a 1/2 kilo of black tar heroin.

5.    CHP OFFICER GOES THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP TRANFORM A VANDALIZED SCHOOL

A CHP officer in Oakland took an artistic approach to the Department’s mission when he helped revitalize a neighborhood school plagued by vandalism.  Collaborating with artists, CHP Officer Adib Zeid orchestrated the creation of a vibrant mural that now graces the school's walls.  His proactive approach not only transformed a previously vandalized school but also turned it into a remarkable art masterpiece, earning him a well-deserved Commissioner’s Commendation.

The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service and Security.
