The mission of the Equal Opportunity & Access Section (EOAS) is to ensure equal employment opportunities for all departmental applicants and employees to strive for a work environment free of discrimination and harassment, and to provide for the recruitment, promotion and retention of a qualified workforce which is representative of the public we serve.
The EOAS is responsible for developing, implementing and advising on policies and procedures supporting the Department's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program. EOAS provides training and consultation to departmental employees on its policies. In accordance with state and federal laws, the California Highway Patrol prohibits harassment and discrimination in employment practices on the actual or perceived basis of the following protected characteristics or activities: age (40 and above), ancestry, association with a member of a protected group, color, disability (physical, developmental, mental health/psychiatric, HIV/AIDS, cancer, and genetic characteristics), gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, medical condition (genetic characteristics, cancer, or a record or history of cancer), military or veteran status, national origin (includes language use restrictions), race (includes hair texture and protective hairstyles), religion or creed (includes religious dress and grooming practices), reproductive health decisionmaking, requesting/taking protected leave provided by law, sex/gender (includes pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and/or related medical conditions), and sexual orientation.
