The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakhurst Area is proud to serve Eastern Madera County providing safety, service, and security to thousands of residents, commuters, and tourists each day. As a part of the CHP’s Central Division, our officers patrol over 1100 square miles of state highways and unincorporated roadways in and around the communities of Coarsegold, Oakhurst, O’Neals, North Fork, Ahwahnee, Bass Lake, and Fish Camp.
Our mountain community is part of the culturally rich Southern Sierra, with world famous destinations including Yosemite National Park, Bass Lake, Sierra National Forest, Devils Postpile National Monument, and the Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias. We patrol up to the south gate entrance of Yosemite National Park, providing foreign and domestic tourists with the assurance their visit to our area will be safe and secure.
We offer a number of traffic safety programs aimed at keeping you and your loved ones safe on our roadways. Contact our office for information on proper use of car seats, while also having access to information benefitting new drivers, tips for collision avoidance, proven safe driving habits, and consequences of poor choices made behind the wheel.

The Oakhurst Area patrols some of the most scenic roadways within California’s vast borders. I encourage you to visit our area and enjoy the vast natural wonder it has to offer. Please be safe while travelling our roadways and keep mindful of changing weather conditions. In the winter time, you may be required to carry chains, so please check our local weather and roadway conditions prior to your arrival.
