Overview
The California Highway Patrol, Gilroy Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility is located on US 101 in Santa Clara County between the cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill. The primary mission of the Department’s Commercial Enforcement Program is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles on the California highway system. The dedicated officers and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialists assigned to this facility work diligently to prevent traffic collisions attributed to mechanical defects or excessive driving hours involving vehicles and drivers subject to California Vehicle Code Section 34500. The Facility maintains operations on both the northbound and southbound sides of US 101 consisting of seven inspection bays and static weight scales to ensure compliance with weight regulations. In 2014, our dedicated officers and inspectors conducted 29,541 inspections including 1746 inspections of vehicles transporting hazardous materials. Two Mobile Road Enforcement (MRE) officers are based at this Facility to supplement our mission. The MRE patrol vehicles are outfitted with all the necessary equipment to conduct roadside inspections of commercial vehicles whose daily routes don’t take them past the scale facility. The California Highway Patrol believes education is critical to promoting highway safety. In addition to inspections and enforcement, the MRE officers provide education concerning commercial laws and regulations upon request to trucking companies.
