Overview
The Buellton Area is one of 13 offices of Coastal Division of the California Highway Patrol. Buellton Area is in the northern half of Santa Barbara County and is comprised mostly of rural, two lane highways. US-101, SR-154, SR-246 and SR-1 are four heavily traveled highways that traverse through the Area and are the main focus of the road patrol officers. The Area services the cities of Lompoc, Solvang and Buellton, and the communities of Los Olivos and Santa Ynez. The Area is also home to Vandenberg Air Force Base, a Department of Defense space and missile testing base, under the jurisdiction of the 30th Space Wing, Air Force Space Command.
The Buellton Area is commanded by Lieutenant Kurt Kruse, #12819. The squad is comprised of three sergeants, 19 road patrol officers, two administrative officers and four civilian employees. This small group of officers is tasked with patrolling an area of approximately 650 square miles.
