A Message From The Captain

Welcome to the Office of Community Outreach and Media Relations’ (COMR) Web page. Our office, based at CHP Headquarters in Sacramento, is responsible for overseeing the CHP's statewide community outreach and marketing activities, as well as acting as the Commissioner's press office. COMR public information officers speak to the media on behalf of the Department on statewide issues and those involving CHP policies. The mission of our office is also to support field commands in their interactions with the media and the community. This support includes advice and consultation, press releases, media materials, and programs designed to help promote safety and communication between California’s residents, visitors, and the CHP.

In addition to working with the news media, the COMR also provides guidance, direction, training, and support to CHP personnel across the state regarding community outreach issues and activities. As a Department, it is imperative that we continue to build community trust and increase transparency. Through education and outreach, we accomplish this on a daily basis.

As a philosophy, community outreach promotes a new and innovative approach to solving the problems of the community through the development and use of partnerships with community members, community and service organizations, and other public and private entities. COMR facilitates and promotes community involvement, participation, and partnerships with local communities to increase traffic safety and reduce crime. These partnerships increase understanding and support for CHP operations and programs.

California’s diverse population has many cultures, people, and a wide age spectrum. And we have this in common: we all use the roads to go places. Let us help you do it safely! On behalf of the dedicated members of the COMR, I would like to invite you to explore our Web site and become familiar with the programs designed to help promote safe communities and communication between the diverse residents of California and the CHP. Please look into them – together we could save someone's life.

Sincerely,

J. B. EHLERS, Captain
Commander
