Welcome to Northern Division. The CHP’s Northern Division boundaries encompass the 13 northern most California counties. From the rugged coastlines to the west, to the Oregon and Nevada borders, Northern California boasts many of the world’s natural wonders. These include dozens of national and state parks, wild life refuges, fish hatcheries, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, forests, mountains. Residents and visitors alike enjoy on- and off-road biking, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, picnicking, water and snow skiing, and photography ~ just to name a few popular activities. Northern California also leads the nation in the production of more than 30 commodities, including peaches, eggs, walnuts, strawberries and rice. Northern Division has it all. Within this geographical area of 39,929 square miles are 36,000 miles of roadway; 20,715 of these miles are subject to CHP patrol, representing 21.2 percent of the total statewide CHP patrolled miles.
The Northern Division headquarters, located in Redding, is responsible for administering all CHP operations in this region: including 15 Area Offices, 11 Resident Posts, and two commercial vehicle enforcement facilities, providing road patrol and emergency response 24-hours-a-day, 7-days a week. Northern Division is staffed by approximately 535 uniformed employees and 180 non-uniformed employees.
