The California Highway Patrol Garberville Area is proud to serve Southern Humboldt and Northern Mendocino Counties, from the Pacific Coast to Trinity County. We provide the highest level of safety, service and security to thousands of residents, commuters and tourists each day. Our office patrols US 101, and State Routes 1, 162, 271, along with the historic Avenue of the Giants, State Route 254, in addition to over 4,000 miles of unincorporated highway. With several million acres of forest lands, protected redwoods and recreation areas, including the Eel and Mattole Rivers, Richard’s Grove, Standish Hickey, and HumboldtRedwoods State Parks, in addition to the King Range National Conservation Area and historic Lost Coast, we hold responsibility for one of the most dynamic
and diverse rural areas in Northern California.  We offer a number of programs aimed at keeping you safe on the road and on the highway. Contact our office for information on how to safely buckle kids in their safety seats, teach new drivers the challenges of
the road, or learn some tips for driving at night, in bad weather, and in high volume traffic. You can help us by driving defensively and safely, obeying the posted speed, giving enough room between you and the car ahead of you, using your turn indicators, and
being courteous on the road. Fog, winding (and sometimes wet) roadways, and animals are not uncommon in our area; remember to drive at a slower speed in limited visibility or wet roadway conditions.
