(360) Santa Rosa

Established in 1989 at the CHP Santa Rosa Area Office, the Explorer program has introduced young men and women to the California Highway Patrol and the field of law enforcement. Over the past two decades young men and women have received training, participated in ride alongs, assisted at community outreach events, and competed in various Explorer Competitions. This experience has not only prepared them for a career in law enforcement but also instilled the values of leadership, responsibility, and team work.

Past members of the Santa Rosa Area Explorer Post have gone on to careers with the CHP, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, the United States Department of Customs and Border Patrol, as well as various local police departments and sheriffs' offices. The Santa Rosa Area currently has one sergeant and six officers who are former CHP Explorers. The goal of the Santa Rosa Area Explorer Post is to mold good citizens and qualified applicants for the CHP Academy.

The Santa Rosa Area Explorer Post is always seeking motivated applicants for the program. For further information, please contact the CHP Santa Rosa Area Office at (707) 588-1400 or stop by the office at 6100 Labath Avenue in Rohnert Park during business hours and ask to speak with an Explorer Advisor.

This summer the CHP Santa Rosa Explorer Post has been very busy. In May we went to Tehachapi and participated in the Kern County Memorial Explorer Competition and received numerous awards. In July we sent five explorers to the CHP Academy in Sacramento to complete the Level 3 and Level 4 training academy. During that time one of our explorers received the Academic Achievement Award and the Outstanding Cadet Award. In September we traveled to Paso Robles for another explorer competition, once again coming back with several trophies. During the summer we also helped with traffic control at various events including NASCAR, Vineman Triathlon, and the Kendall Jackson Tomato Festival. Additionally, we assisted area personnel with community outreach events. An Explorer acompanied our Public Information Officer to local schools and spoke during driver safety presentations. We will be continuing our training throughout the winter in order prepare ourselves for next year's competitions and CHP Explorer Academy.
