The California Highway Patrol Buttonwillow Explorer Post, Post 426, is an extension of the Boy Scouts of America, Learning for Life. The program provides an opportunity for young men and women to experience firsthand how a police department functions and what it takes to get started in a challenging career in law enforcement. The program, geared around law enforcement, gives youth self-confidence, discipline, and a feeling of community involvement. The youths are trained in all aspects of law enforcement, including report writing, traffic stops, crime scene investigations, defensive tactics, firearm safety, arrest procedures, crimes in progress, etc. The Buttonwillow Area Explorer Post was established in early 2016 with 30 potential Explorer Candidates, the Buttonwillow Area Explorer Post currently has 16 Explorer Cadets who have recently completed the Level One Academy. The Post has taken part in the first ever CHiPs for Kids event in the Taft Community.
